The identification of the following principles should allow a teacher to utilize game-based learning within the Social Studies classroom. The presentation will focus on the following segments:
1. The defining of Game-Based Learning—this provides a foundation for which to share these ideas amongst the participants
2. Identification of key principles
a. The utilization of a hypothesis/problem solving approach.
b. The selection of games to utilize in instruction—a model to use to select games
c. Ludological components—the evaluating of games to make them accessible to all students regardless of gaming experience.
3. The educational foundation to sell GBL to your administrator—a discussion of the following concepts: CAMS, Social Development Theory, Reflective Practice, and the Constructivist nature of games
4. Examples of GBL in the Social Studies Classroom
